Un altro importante tassello della Pallacanestro Trieste del futuro conferma il suo impegno in biancorosso: Jarrod Uthoff continuerà a vestire la maglia di Trieste dopo aver siglato un prolungamento del contratto.
Giocatore dalle straordinarie doti atletiche e mentali, Jarrod è stato in grado, nella stagione in corso, di fare la differenza da entrambi i lati del campo: 12,7 punti di media in regular season, con il 55% al tiro da due e il 39% dall’ arco, il nativo dell’ Iowa è tra le ali più incisive del campionato (15,7 val. media). Alla fase offensiva si aggiungono i 6,5 rimbalzi e 1,3 stoppate a gara.

Nato nel 1993 a Cedar Rapids, Iowa (USA), si distingue fin dal campionato liceale, dove nel 2011 viene insignito dei titoli di “Mr. Basketball” dello stato dell’Iowa e “Gatorade Player of the Year”.
Dopo le scuole superiori, Uthoff trascorre un anno da “redshirt” all’Università del Wisconsin, per poi approdare definitivamente all’Università dell’Iowa. Nelle tre stagioni dal 2013 al 2016, Jarrod diviene uno dei pilastri degli Hawkeyes dell’Iowa. Durante gli anni al college, mostra una crescita costante, culminando in una straordinaria stagione da senior.
Le sue statistiche parlano chiaro: 18,9 punti di media (secondo nel 2016 nella Big 10) e 6,3 rimbalzi a partita, prestazioni che gli valgono il riconoscimento di All-American. Uthoff conclude la sua carriera universitaria posizionandosi al 19° posto nella classifica dei marcatori all-time degli Hawkeyes con 1.298 punti, al 4° posto per stoppate (177) e al 10° per tiri da tre punti realizzati (137).
Nel 2016 si rende eleggibile per il draft NBA, ma nessuna franchigia lo sceglie. Gioca la Summer League con i Sacramento Kings. I Toronto Raptors gli offrono la prima opportunità in NBA, salvo poi assegnarlo alla loro affiliata in G-League, i Raptors 905, e successivamente cederlo agli Indiana Mad Ants all’inizio del 2017. Nel marzo dello stesso anno, i Dallas Mavericks lo chiamano, ma in Texas trova spazio solo in 9 partite NBA, prima di essere scambiato prima agli Houston Rockets e poi nuovamente agli Indiana Mad Ants. Qui il suo talento si esprime di nuovo ad alti livelli: 16,5 punti di media e 8,4 rimbalzi in 50 partite.
Nel luglio 2018, Uthoff vive la sua prima esperienza oltreoceano, in Russia allo Zenit S.Pietroburgo, dove in VTB United League realizza 5,9 punti e quasi 4 rimbalzi a partita.
Il rientro negli Stati Uniti l’anno successivo lo vede approdare nuovamente in G-League con l’affiliata dei Grizzlies, i Memphis Hustle, con cui disputa 34 partite segnando oltre 19 punti di media. Successivamente torna in NBA con Memphis, giocando 4 partite. La pandemia di COVID-19 interrompe il campionato di G-League e nella stagione seguente Jarrod sostituisce Gary Payton II agli Wizard nella bolla di Orlando.
Nella stagione 2020-2021, Uthoff torna a brillare in G-League con la maglia dei Birmingham Squadron, mettendo a referto 14,9 punti e quasi 9 rimbalzi di media.
L’anno seguente segna un nuovo capitolo nella sua carriera, con l’approdo in Giappone nella massima serie. Veste le maglie dei SeaHorses Mikawa, dei Kyoto Hannaryz e infine dei Yokohama B-Corsairs, con i quali disputa la sua ultima stagione prima di arrivare a Trieste, mantenendo per tre anni medie vicine alla doppia-doppia.

Pallacanestro Trieste secures another key piece for its future as Jarrod Uthoff confirms his commitment to the Red and White by signing a contract extension.
A player with extraordinary athletic and mental qualities, Jarrod has been a game-changer on both ends of the court this season.
Averaging 12.7 points in the regular season with 55% shooting from two-point range and 39% from beyond the arc, the Iowa native stands out as one of the most impactful forwards in the league (15.7 average efficiency rating). His offensive contributions are complemented by 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

Born in 1993 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (USA), Uthoff distinguished himself early in his high school career, earning the titles of Iowa’s “Mr. Basketball” and “Gatorade Player of the Year” in 2011.
After graduating high school, Uthoff spent a redshirt year at the University of Wisconsin before definitively joining the University of Iowa. In his three seasons from 2013 to 2016, Jarrod became a cornerstone of the Iowa Hawkeyes. During his college years, he demonstrated consistent growth, culminating in an outstanding senior season.
His statistics speak for themselves: 18.9 points per game (second in the Big Ten in 2016) and 6.3 rebounds per game, earning him All-American recognition. Uthoff concluded his college career ranking 19th on the Hawkeyes’ all-time scoring list with 1,298 points, 4th in blocks (177), and 10th in three-pointers made (137).
In 2016, he declared for the NBA draft but went unselected. He played in the Summer League with the Sacramento Kings. The Toronto Raptors gave him his first taste of the NBA, but he was later assigned to their G-League affiliate, the Raptors 905, before being traded to the Indiana Mad Ants in early 2017. In March of the same year, the Dallas Mavericks signed him, but he saw action in only 9 NBA games before being traded first to the Houston Rockets and then back to the Indiana Mad Ants. It was there that his talent once again flourished, averaging 16.5 points and 8.4 rebounds in 50 games.
In July 2018, Uthoff had his first overseas experience, playing in Russia for Zenit St. Petersburg, where he averaged 5.9 points and nearly 4 rebounds per game in the VTB United League.
His return to the United States the following year saw him rejoin the G-League with the Memphis Grizzlies’ affiliate, the Memphis Hustle, where he played 34 games and averaged over 19 points per game. He then returned to the NBA with Memphis, playing in 4 games. The COVID-19 pandemic halted the G-League season, and the following year, Jarrod replaced Gary Payton II on the Washington Wizards in the Orlando bubble.
In the 2020-2021 season, Uthoff once again excelled in the G-League with the Birmingham Squadron, posting 14.9 points and almost 9 rebounds per game.
The following year marked a new chapter in his career as he moved to Japan’s top league. He played for the SeaHorses Mikawa, the Kyoto Hannaryz, and finally the Yokohama B-Corsairs, with whom he played his last season before arriving in Trieste, maintaining near double-double averages for three years.
