Eli Brooks è il primo dei due giocatori stranieri del roster biancorosso ad essere stato presentato in questa stagione. Reduce da oltre 76 minuti sul parquet di Las Vegas nell’ultima NBA Summer League, con la maglia degli Indiana Pacers, Eli si presenta a Trieste dopo una grande carriera nel College del Michigan. Obiettivi, aspettative e ambizioni nelle sue prime parole da giocatore della pallacanestro Trieste:
“Vengo da una lunga carriera prima in high school e poi al college. Lì si gioca un basket che posso definire già professionale, ad alto livello, con ritmi molto alti sia in attacco che in difesa. Hard hedges (uscita dal blocco del difensore che rallenta il portatore di palla), “drop” e “pistol” sono all’ordine del giorno e rendono il gioco molto veloce. Mi sono trovato a giocare in molte situazioni diverse, con allenatori con diverse filosofie, e questo credo sarà utilissimo per “tradurre” il mio modo di giocare per il campionato italiano. Già lo è stato nella mia crescita fino ad oggi.
Sono stato capitano agli Wolverines e come leader in quel contesto ho sempre voluto guidare con l’esempio prima che con le parole, prendendo le decisione giuste al momento giusto, essendo un buon compagno di squadra e facendo tutto quello che è necessario per portare a casa la vittoria.
Nelle ultime due stagioni a Michigan ho sicuramente rafforzato anche il lato “vocale” della mia leadership. In questo è stato importantissimo coach Juwan Howard, il rapporto con lui mi ha fatto crescere molto.
Sono entusiasta di poter continuare il mio percorso professionale di crescita a Trieste, non vedo l’ora di iniziare la stagione. I primi contatti per vestire il biancorosso li ho avuto con coach Christian. In realtà da lui ho ricevuto diverso tempo fa la mia prima offerta in carriera per giocare in “Division 1” di NCAA. Alla fine il cerchio si è chiuso, e quando lui ha ricevuto l’incarico a Trieste mi ha subito contattato per propormi questa avventura, dicendomi che per me sarebbe stata una grande opportunità, ne sono convinto. Non vedo l’ora di immergermi nella vostra cultura, nel vostro cibo, di imparare la vostra lingua. Poter vedere tutte le città in cui andremo a giocare e immergermi in quell’atmosfera sarà fantastico.
Ho visto i video di voi tifosi, ho sentito i vostri cori, i vostri tamburi, e ho ammirato le vostre bandiere sventolare, sarà magnifico.
La squadra che stiamo costruendo è speciale: ci sono un sacco di tiratori da tre punti, e al contempo diversi veterani, con i quali non vedo l’ora di confrontarmi, per condividere le nostre visioni del gioco e imparare da loro. Da parte mia porto alla squadra senza dubbio la capacità di fare le scelte giuste, anche sotto pressione, la mia capacità di fare canestro e di difendere forte sempre. Io gioco sempre al massimo, senza mollare mai, spero davvero possiate apprezzarlo nel corso di questa stagione”.

Eli Brooks, the first of the two foreign players on the “Biancorossi” roster this season, has officially been introduced in Trieste. Fresh off more than 76 minutes of play on the Las Vegas hardwood during the latest NBA Summer League, wearing the Indiana Pacers jersey, Eli arrives in Trieste after a stellar career at Michigan College. As he steps onto the court in his new role, he shares his objectives, expectations, and ambitions in his opening words as a Trieste basketball player.
“Coming from an extensive journey through high school and then college, I’ve experienced a brand of basketball that I can already describe as professional, played at a high level, with rapid rhythms both in offense and defense. Hard hedges, drop coverages, and pistol plays are part of daily life, contributing to a swift-paced game. I’ve found myself in diverse situations, coached by mentors with various philosophies, and I believe this will be instrumental in adapting my style of play for the Italian league – as it has been throughout my growth so far.
I served as captain for the Wolverines, and in that role, I always aimed to lead by example rather than just words. Making the right decisions at the right moments, being a good team player, and doing whatever it takes to secure victory were my priorities. Over my last two seasons at Michigan, I certainly enhanced the vocal aspect of my leadership. Coach Juwan Howard played a pivotal role in this, and our rapport has significantly contributed to my development.
I’m thrilled to continue my professional growth journey in Trieste; I’m eagerly anticipating the season ahead. My initial connections to the Pallacanestro Trieste came through Coach Christian. In fact, he offered me my first Division 1 NCAA career opportunity some time ago. Eventually, the circle closed when he assumed the Trieste coaching role. He immediately reached out to propose this adventure, assuring me it would be a tremendous opportunity, and I’m wholeheartedly convinced of that. I can’t wait to immerse myself in your culture, cuisine, and language. Exploring the cities we’ll compete in and embracing that atmosphere will be fantastic.

The team we’re building is extraordinary. We boast a lineup of sharpshooters from beyond the arc, alongside seasoned veterans whose insights I’m eager to tap into. As for me, I undoubtedly bring the ability to make the right choices, even under pressure, my knack for scoring, and a strong defensive prowess.
