Ospite a “Il caffè dello Sport” su Telequattro, il General Manager Michael Arcieri ha fatto il punto su quella che è stata fin qui la preseason biancorossa.
Si parte dalla vittoria del “Memorial Bortoluzzi” a Lignano, in cui i ragazzi di coach Christian hanno battuto prima la Pallacanestro Forlì nel match d’apertura e poi UEB Gesteco Cividale in una finale molto combattuta: “I giocatori stanno entrando sempre più nelle idee di coach Christian: giocano bene insieme e la vittoria del Memorial Bortoluzzi lo ho dimostrato. C’è uno spirito di squadra che sta crescendo giorno dopo giorno e questo sarà un valore importante in una stagione impegnativa. Abbiamo costruito un roster di valore in cui i giocatori possono occupare più zone del campo: avere questo tipo di caratteristiche, potendo contare su ruoli interscambiabili, permetterà alla squadra di cambiare pelle durante la partita quando necessario”.
Si passa poi a uno dei volti nuovi del roster, Eli Brooks: “Eli è un ragazzo di carattere, vuole inserirsi nel nuovo contesto in cui si trova, dai nuovi compagni alla città. Sarà un giocatore importante per noi”. Su Ariel Filloy, premiato come MVP a Lignano: “Quando ho visto che c’era la possibilità di farlo tornare, non ci ho pensato due volte”.
Su coach Christian: “È una persona curiosa, che con umiltà vuole capire dalle persone che lo circondano – a partire dai suoi collaboratori – come funzionano l’ambiente e un campionato per lui nuovi. Ha grande voglia di imparare e condividere idee ed esperienze”.
Sulla lunga stagione che aspetta i biancorossi: “Ogni partita sarà difficilissima. In A2 il gioco è molto fisico: serviranno intensità e carattere per rimanere sempre con la giusta concentrazione. Fuori e dentro il campo”.
Infine un commento sulle due proprietà statunitensi che hanno deciso di investire nello sport triestino: “È interessante che due squadre importanti di Trieste nel calcio e nel basket abbiano entrambe una proprietà statunitense. Penso che stiamo, da entrambe le parti, costruendo qualcosa di importante per il futuro”.

Regarding Coach Christian: “He’s a curious person who humbly wants to understand how things work, starting with the people around him, including his colleagues. He has a strong desire to learn and share ideas and experiences”.
On the long season ahead for the “Biancorossi” team: “Every game will be extremely tough. In A2, the game is very physical. We’ll need intensity and character to stay focused at all times. Both on and off the court”.
Finally, a comment on the two American ownership groups that have decided to invest in Trieste sports: “It’s interesting that two important teams in Trieste, soccer and basketball, both have American ownership. I believe that on both sides, we are building something significant for the future”.
